Here are my latest lessons of gift card churning that I am going to pass to you.
The obvious:
- Be patient
- Points/Cashback take a while to post
- Gift cards take a while to arrive in your mailbox
- Gift cards that allow you to transfer funds easily are a pain to sell
- If you had past success, and know it still works, try again
- I hate going to Kmart to upgrade my gift cards, but I still do it on a much smaller scale
- Double dipping on various portals
- TopCashBack -> Staples using Ink Bold
- Ultimate Rewards/ShopDiscover -> Lowes (applicable for Q2 2013) using Freedom/Discover/any home improvement category bonus
The not so obvious:
- Take a dynamic course of action, do not become fixated with one path because things happen
- I sold approximately $4500 to Plastic Jungle successfully, but one day they did not buy $600 worth of Home Depot gift cards (for a later story)
- As mentioned in Gift Card Churning – Rejection I still have $1000 worth of gift cards to a popular vendor that no one will buy, I have my theories, but I am waiting until the sites buy it
- As mentioned in Gift Card Churning Advice – Merchandise Credit Is Not A Gift Card on the difficulties, try not to buy Merchandise Credit (for a later story)
- Be creative! – I won’t spell out every trick I know, but here’s a simple one
- TopCashBack -> Giftcardmall -> eBay gift cards -> use on eBay (return at least 4%, 2% from TCB and 2% from eBay Bucks)
- The more steps, the less likely people know about it, and higher chances of success
