Upgraded Discover Card

In November 2012 I signed up for a Discover More card for the $200 sign up cash back and 5% back for any online purchase in that quarter. However, the Discover card’s cash back is not very good. Spend $3000 and receive I believe .5% cash back, after that it would be 1%.

With the Discover It, the cash back is 1% from $0 spend. That being said, I called Discover and upgraded my More card to the It. I found out the other feature the It card is almost like the Chase’s Sapphire line, a dedicated line to speak to a human representative without having to dance through  various automated prompts.

I like having access to Discover’s Shopping Portal as some of the links for cash back is equal to or better than sites like Top Cash Back or Big Crumbs.

  • How did you upgrade your More card to the It card? I applied and received the More card in December, right before they launched the It Card. I assumed I had to apply again, but I’d like to avoid the inquiry if possible. Is it as simple as just calling them up?

  • Funny that you posted this, I just switched over to the IT card today.

@Christian- yes, you can just call them and ask to switch to the it card. There is no credit pull and you keep your credit history. The rep said everything on the account stays the same, just the program will be different (what is advertise for the IT vs More).

    • @Christian, I did what @Royce did. Called them up and they’ll close out the More and send you an IT card.
