Ordering Staples Gift Cards Online

My Staples gift card that I ordered through the Ultimate Rewards mall earlier in the week arrived. I am hoping my 2x bonus will go through. Staples charged me $1.99 for tracking. This makes the fee about 2% for the $100 gift card.

As part of my test, I am wondering if I will receive the extra 2x bonus because the terms and conditions specifically state:

Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.  Not eligible on promotional items, technology, software, and electronics. Shopping cart must be empty prior to accessing Staples through this site to be eligible. Discount reward certificates and Copy and Print shop orders are not eligible. Staples Business Advantage orders are not eligible. Contact with Staples for price matching, sales assistance, etc. will likely cancel eligibility. Any return, exchange or other adjustment made at a physical store location for an on-line purchase may result in your purchase being deemed ineligible for reward.

However, when ordering Staples gift cards online, they’re being shipped from Gift Card Mall. It occurred to me that since the GC was not shipped directly, I saw there was GiftCertificates.com eligibility in the Ultimate Rewards Mall at 3x and their T&C says:

Purchases made through corporate sales site and orders over $2,500 are not eligible. Purchase of MasterCard Gift Cards, Visa and Amex Gift Cheques are not eligible. SuperCertificate redemption is not eligible.

If I buy that Staples GC from GiftCertificates.com I’d be earning an extra 1x (2x vs 3x), and if you use the Sapphire Preferred it’d be an extra 1.07x.

Obviously, this would not apply to the Chase Ink line because the 5% is better than what can be offered here. I’d be interested to know if GiftCertificates.com is counted as Office Supply for 8x vs 7x.
