I did not think about doing an “App-O-Rama” when I opened my Chase Sapphire Preferred, another mistake I made that I hope you learn from me not to do. Now I will wait 90 days before my next credit card application, but on my list to open:
No Annual Fee Cards (will keep all 3):
- Discover More
- US Bank Cash+
- American Express HHonors
- Only one that has a bonus and minimum spend
Annual Fee Cards:
- Chase Ink Bold
- Chase Ink Plus
- Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines
- Bank of Hawaii Hawaiian Airlines
I will keep one of the Ink, and I will add to my Ultimate Rewards points. The Ink cards I plan to buy the Vanilla reloads at Office Depot and paying the cell phone bill on it. The AMEX HHonors card I will try to buy the Vanilla reloads at Walgreen’s. I’ve been to one Walgreens and they turned me down for trying to pay by credit.
The Hawaiian Airlines card I would have to spend $1000 each within the first four months. Once I obtain the points, I will transfer to my Hilton account for the points for a total of 140,000 HHonor points (35,000 for each card, at a rate of 2:1 to Hilton).
In total, my spend would be about $5,000 for the bonuses.
I am deciding to sign up for the Discover card for various promotions on their quarterly cash back like this quarter is 5% cash back on all online purchases. Chase Freedom is not that generous to do all online purchases. The US Bank Cash+ I plan to use exclusively for the 5% back categories. When cash back is at 5%, I can’t give that up.
