Maximize Starbucks Rewards

Starbucks has a loyalty program where you earn stars for frequenting them. You must register a gift card with them and use that as your payment . As soon as you earn 30 stars in a year, you will be a gold member.

After every 12 stars, you receive 1 free item. That free item can be redeemed for any food or drink of any size at Starbucks.

Typically, every morning I would order a tall (small) coffee or green tea. For this month, they’ve had the treat receipt and I would be buying a grande (medium) iced drink for a little over $2 after taxes. This $2 drink also counts as a star. For about $4 a day, I am earning two stars.

From Starbucks:

Keep the Free Drinks & Eats Coming

Collect 30 Stars within 12 months and you step up to the Gold level for one year:

  • Free drink or food reward every 12 Stars
  • Personalized Gold Card
  • Special Offers just for you

Once you’re Gold, it takes another 30 Stars to maintain Gold for another 12 months. And since you get a free drink or food reward every 12 Stars, you get at least two rewards just for staying Gold!

If you don’t qualify for the Gold level again by your anniversary date (i.e., the date you qualified for the Gold level), you’ll revert to the Green level and lose all your Stars. Don’t let that happen!

If it does though, don’t worry – if you earn 30 Stars again within 12 months, you’ll move from Green right back to Gold. We won’t give up on you.

Once you earn the free reward, you could redeem for any item. Lately, I have been crunched for time during lunch, so I pick up a sandwich and use my star on that. Oftentimes, I would order a latte and use a star for that.

Remember though, each star is earned by transaction and not by items purchased.
