Gift Card Churning – How To Buy Gift Cards With Staples

There’s not many details to this post, but more of a Public Service Announcement. In the Staples promotion the other week, reader Elaine posted that Staples cancelled her order when she ordered an egift card using a Staples gift card.

In my experiences, I’ve used Staples gift cards to buy physical gift cards and all the orders went through without a problem, including the ePromo codes that were eligible to use on January 1, 2014. Elaine’s comment also confirms my experience with what the Staples’ CSR said on having a gift card being mailed.

Happy shopping!

  • Last week I tried to use my $200 Staples e-gift card to buy a $200 physical Nordstrom gift card online. I received a call from Staples saying that I couldn’t use that Staples gift card to buy another gift card, so I had them cancel my order. Maybe my experience was just an anomaly.

    • That’s interesting, my orders were all for Nordstrom gift cards. The only Staples e-gift cards I have encountered were from the pormo and I had no issues.

In my orders I did not use a Staples rewards # (since you don’t receive anything for it, no need to enter one in) and clicked through a portal.

      • I was surprised too. I have since used my promotional gift cards (received from buying the e-gift card) to buy other gift cards online, and the first order shipped with no problem. I’m still holding onto the e-gift card, though.
