Currently, there is a great Starbucks stars earning promotion. If you buy a breakfast sandwich you earn an extra star and 2 bonus stars if you buy a frappuccino for July 24 and 25 only.
Also happening at the same time are the treat receipts where you make a purchase before 2 PM, and make another purchase after 2 PM you would receive a grande beverage for $2.
Combine the offers and you are looking at 5 stars for the two transactions. Say your purchase total becomes $7 for the breakfast sandwich and frappuccino, you will be paying $1.40 per star which almost gets you to the free item award star.
Thanks for the idea. I’ll probably continue to earn stars buying gift cards though.
How do you earn a star with buying gift card? Is there a minimum? What about reloading an existing gift card?
You have to use your registered SBUX card and buy a gift card and then you’ll earn a star
I don’t think I would pay $1.40 per star, but often do two stars (two swipes) on a tall drip at licensed locations (since I will be getting coffee anyhow) along with an occasional gift card purchase. I also keep my Starbucks purchase price low by buying Starbucks gift credit online. I typically look for 2:1, but recently managed to buy $25 of Starbucks credit for under $5. At 2:1 or better, that means I typically earn two stars for about $1, or $.50 each.
Since I am buying credit at a discount, earning stars becomes less important. I used to value stars at about $.50 each (since I typically redeem for a beverage worth about $6) but since I can buy the same item for $3 or better in discounted credit, I now value stars closer to $.25 each.
