This past weekend, I saw a post on The Points Guy from a reader’s question on what should be the best card to sign up while learning the in’s and out’s of credit card points.
The Points Guy suggested the Chase Sapphire Preferred because of the 2x bonus on Travel and Dining with the 7% yearly dividend.
I remember being in that position wondering which card to begin with. In my opinion, I think TPG should have recommended the Chase Freedom card. While the question was asked for travel redemption, the Freedom has the rotating 5% back quarterly categories and the new users could learn about the spend categories. When they are ready, they could sign up for the Sapphire Preferred and delay the annual fee then combine the points for the travel redemptions.
Perhaps the nice commission from Chase played a role?
That is a great question that only TPG could answer
