Bluebird Closure




After my boneheaded mistake of alerting American Express of my Bluebird and Serve account, I faxed in my cards that I have used to load my Serve card. They slapped me on the wrist and said no more prepaid cards.

Once they unlocked my card for loading, the rep said I must close the account. I kept pushing back and asking if I can leave the accounts alone and I will call back to make a decision. She was not buying any of it.

A few more minutes go by of the same thing, she looked into my two accounts and the biggest punch in the gut and she came back with closing my Bluebird account. They said I could continue to use my Serve account.

She said after the pending transactions go through, American Express will mail me a check.

Since she kept insisting I could only have one account, I told her I did not want my Serve if she was forcing me to keep one account and that I would rather have the Bluebird instead. Unfortunately, she said I would have to speak to a supervisor who also cannot change the decision because of a “concern” on my account.

  • Hmmmm… Hopefully you have some friends or family members who’d be willing to lend you a Bluebird card or two?
