Many folks have loaded American Express Serve with prepaid gift cards which still works. However, American Express has clamped that down with tighter controls. You no longer can add and remove cards at will.
I attempted to link a third Visa prepaid cards to my Serve account and I was stopped. I received the familiar message:
We are unable to complete your request at this time. Beginning Feb 6, 2013 Serve card activation is required for all new customers to add money using a debit card, credit card, or bank account. If your Serve card has been activated or you applied prior to Feb 6, 2013, please call customer service at 1-800-555-4318. Your Serve card will be delivered within 7-10 business days of your application.
I called up the number and did a very bone headed mistake. I told her I didn’t have my Serve card and she asked for my social security number. At that point, she saw I had both the Serve and Bluebird.
We talked a bit and I now have a fax number to send with the front and backs of all the cards that I’ve loaded into Serve. Fortunately, it’s only three cards. One Freedom and two prepaid Visa’s.
