Previously, I had explained what I thought were the best ways of manufactured spend for Hyatt Gift Checks. Here are some pros and cons about redeeming the Hyatt Gift Check
What makes them great:
- Gift check redemption will still allow you to earn Hyatt Gold Passport points as if you pay with cash
- Can be applied to a Best Rate Guarantee
As far as I know, the only downside is you can only redeem on the more expensive refundable room rates.
For my stay in Japan, I will redeem $300 at the Hyatt Regency Tokyo in November.
As a side note, I booked three different reservations for this hotel. One weeknight was through Hotels.com for an advanced room as they had a 10% off coupon. For the weekend nights, I redeemed using points, and the final nights I will use the gift checks.
Hi. Thanks for all the info on these, but I’m still not quite understanding the advantage of buying these with TY points. If you’re getting $.01 in value that way, wouldn’t it be cheaper to just use the points to book the room direct at $.0125 at TY’s portal?
Correct on that! But I don’t hold the extra Citi card to make it .0125. In addition, you could submit a BRG (Best Rate Guarantee) with the gift certificates while using the Citi portal you wouldn’t be able to.
