I saw this post on The Frequent Miler about BigCrumbs.com (that has my referral link) on originally getting back 2.25% when you purchase American Express Gift cards.
This idea had me thinking to use my Discover card for my $200 sign up bonus and 5% online category bonus. I originally thought of using the Discover card to buy US Airways miles to redeem on United. I missed the promotion and figured this is the best way.
I originally thought I was going to buy a $1500 gift card and use the WRAP12P code. Just as I was about to check out American Express asked me for my social security number for any purchase over $1000. I didn’t feel like sending my SS# to any more financial institutions. So I ordered two cards, one for $999 and the other for $500. Total came out to be $1509.90, $1499 for gift cards, $7.90 for the card activation, and $3.00 for the shipping.
From BigCrumbs.com, I received 1.8% back of the gift card purchase. I was supposed to receive 2.25%, but 1.8% is still good. It equates to $26.24 back, which means I just profited $15.34 just to buy some gift cards. Now, I’m in the process of liquidating the cards back to cash.
In addition to all of that, I am set to receive my $200 sign up bonus with Discover and $75 for the online purchase.
