Review: Marriott Singapore Tang Plaza

We repositioned to the Marriott Singapore Tang Plaza hotel for our second and third nights. The hotel is nicely situated right over the Orchard MRT station, on the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road. Of our 4 trips to Singapore, we have stayed 3 times at this hotel, and the 4th was at the Grand Hyatt, I felt like this was the right place for this particular trip, for a few reasons, but the biggest was that I was sitting on plenty of Marriott Points, and they had award availability. The other reason, was that the lounge has always been very enjoyable for us.

The last time we visited the Singapore Marriott, the lobby was under renovation, that was New Year’s 2013. It was nice to see the result of those renovations.

Our room was on the 26th floor, one floor below the Executive Club, and was room 2615. Unfortunately it was right by the elevator, but in the big scheme of things, this didn’t really impact us. The Marriott Singapore is quite a small hotel, with only 10-12 hotel rooms per floor. In all of our visits, we’ve never been upgraded to a suite.

The room, we were told was upgraded, but to me, it looked pretty standard. The bathroom was clearly upgraded since our previous visit, and the bed was unfortunately much firmer than I would have liked. But we really weren’t there for the room.

The pool, though small, is very nice.

The real shining spot, in my opinion was the Executive Club. In the past few visits, it seems like they staff the evenings with 2-3 trainees, and it really works out well, I think. For our time there, Eish, who was only in his 3rd or 4th week, took excellent care of us.

Our final night, I just happened to mention that we had an early flight and Eish proactively arranged a “to-go” breakfast for us, which was waiting at the front desk for us, when we checked out at 4am in the morning.

Conclusion:

Overall, the hotel completely met our goals and in the area of the lounge, exceeded our expectations. I’m sure we’ll be back sooner rather than later, and when we are, we will certainly be looking for Eish, since he took rather good care of us.
