I logged into my American Express account today and saw a new offer on my Platinum card. The offer is for 2X Membership Rewards points on HomeDepot.com purchases through March 31, 2015. This offer is targeted, but like most, I’d assume it’s targeted to a fairly broad group. Log in to your American Express account and see if there is a HomeDepot.com deal for you.
The deal is only for online orders on HomeDepot.com, not in-store or phone, but your mileage may vary (heh) ordering gift cards online to spend in-store. Quite honestly, I’d much prefer to earn via 5X Ultimate Rewards on Home Depot gift cards at an office supply store, but if you’re looking to earn Membership Rewards points this isn’t a bad deal. Other avenues would include using the Amex Everyday (or Preferred) to buy Home Depot gift cards at a supermarket, where you can earn up to 4.5x MR. With that spend capped at $6000 per year, though, this is a nice deal for HomeDepot.com purchases to supplement.
Earning 2X points isn’t going to make me run to buy things I wasn’t going to already get, but as a homeowner, there’s always something I need at HomeDepot anyway. Consider this part of your slow earnings on every day spending, rather than a heavy hitting opportunity and you’ll be ok. Then again, I’m sure there’s heavy hitting potential, but I’m no professional!

I got this too, after I had done dropped $2k at HD. That said, I didn’t lose sleep because I went portal (TCB, 1%) to Raise.com for e-GC (~8% off), with arrivals (2%).
So, do I want 11% off or or 5X UR or 2X MR? I chose 11%. I then went through TCB for 5% off my order. The only downside was since I made my purchases through GC’s, when the scope changed I wound up with store credit for my returned product (versus a refund to my CC).
