Dom Perignon on Emirates
This trip was planned in one way, shape and form for more than 9 months. In fact, the miles we used for this trip had been earmarked for a trip to Maldives this past May, but we instead decided to change that to a trip that would be on 2 Emirates A380s.

I don’t generally talk about the monetary cost (e.g. taxes, fees), primarily because I think they are in the noise for most awards. I will say that we paid out of pocket for flights from DCA-JFK on American, and ATL-BWI on Delta. Yes, I flew Delta, worse, I even paid for a Delta flight. Ok, now that that is off my chest, here are the miles this cost:
Emirates A380 First (JFK-DXB-SIN) – 100k Alaska Airlines Miles per person
Singapore Economy to Phuket, Business back (SIN-HKT-SIN) – 32.5k KrisFlyer miles per person
Korean Airlines First (SIN-ICN-ATL) – 95k Korean SkyPass miles (transferred from Chase Ultimate Rewards) per person
Grand total of miles: 227.5k Miles/Points
Conclusion:
This was a pricey trip for us. Not the priciest trip of the year but, it was pretty gucci compared to how we have done things in the past, one aspect of that, is the fact that round trip on Star Alliance carriers for 135k in First is virtually gone (thanks United!). The other reason, was because we (ok, fine, I) really, really wanted to fly Emirates A380 in First Class, and fly out of the Emirates A380 terminal in Dubai. All of the options we used for redeeming points and miles for this travel are still available, so if you saw aspects of the trip that excite you, I’d encourage you to make it happen for yourself, you can. Feel free to leave a comment if there were aspects of the trip or trip report that you liked, as well as anything else you’d like to share about.
So none of the taxes/fees are exorbitant then? (Like BA level). That’s all I’d be curious about, personally
@Joe, I had to go back pretty far on the Emirates flights but they were cheap, ~$45 each. The Singapore awards were pricier at ~$131 for Y and $154 for J. Korean Air cost: $360.93, so that could be exorbitant… I think 95k miles is exorbitant too, but space is generally wide open… so a balance I suppose.
