In case you missed it, my esteemed colleague Matt announced yesterday that Saverocity is looking for new bloggers. The array of talent already gathered here is considerable, but our team of quants tell us there’s still room for incremental excellence.

So what kind of new talent do we want? Good question. The following qualities would be nice:

• Honest and ethical. All of us have other jobs and we’re not leaning on this website to provide food and shelter. (Beer money, sure, but not food and shelter.) Which is to say there’s no pressure to be profit-maximizing credit card whores at the expense of quality content.
• Interested in writing articles for people, not for search engine optimization. See above. It’s nice to be able to engage with your readers, not just put stuff out there to catch some long-tail stragglers a few months or years down the road. You’ll get long-tail stragglers eventually, of course, but it’s more fun to write for current readers instead of for people who might stumble upon your website on some random day next year, find the answer to a quick question, and leave.
• Have something new and interesting to say. There are tons of blogs about credit cards and travel, but most of them focus on the same kinds of things. If you’ve got something new to say about that stuff–well, frankly, I have a hard time believing that, but if you do, tremendous. If you’re interested in writing about something else that might be of interest, run the idea by us. I can’t speak for Matt–and frankly I have no idea he’d feel about this because I haven’t run it by him–but I’d love it if we had somebody who could write interesting things about the personal income tax code. Or if we had somebody who owned rental properties who would write engagingly and knowledgeably about that. And that’s just off the top of my head, there are other great personal finance blogs yet to be created.

Enough of these rigorous standards already! What’s in it for you?

• Probably more exposure than if you were on your own. I hit 30,000 pageviews in May, which is nothing by the standards of the big guys, but it’s about four times more than where I was when I joined.
• No affiliate link quotas that will affect your content. Cough, cough.
• Beer money. I made a little over $200 last month from Google Adsense. I won’t complain about a few grand every year, even if that leaves me in minimum wage territory. It’s essentially a hobby, and how many hobbies are even slightly profitable like this?
• A legitimate side business to use for business credit card sign-ups and tax write-offs. No more asking, “Is it okay for me to apply for a business credit card?”

So if you already have a relevant blog, or you know somebody who does, or you have a weird compulsion to write stuff for little to no pay in the hopes that a few people will read it and maybe leave a few comments, then please get in touch with Matt.

Matt introduced the forum here, and I really don’t have anything to add to his eloquent, moving statement of purpose other than that if you don’t go and sign up for the forum right now, you are a horrible human being and are probably making the worst mistake that anybody has ever made in the history of mankind.

This new forum is better than Flyertalk because there isn’t as much clutter. It’s better than Fatwallet Financial because there’s a wider variety of cool topics. It’s better than sliced bread because sliced bread goes bad after a few days. It’s better than penicillin because penicillin only cures bacterial infections. Missing out on this would be a bad idea, folks.
