New Acorns Rewards Program: “Found Money”

There’s a new rewards program from Acorns, an investment app that rounds up your transactions and transfers money from your account to an investment account. It’s kind of like Keep The Change and other such programs.

Via Business Insider, here is the current list of rewards:

  • 1-800-Flowers: $15 for every transaction over $20.
  • Jet.com: 5% of each transaction.
  • JackThreads: $15 for signing up as a new customer.
  • Dollar Shave Club: 10% of each transaction.
  • Hotel Tonight: $10 for every booking over $100.

The 1-800-Flowers one caught my eye since some folks have written about stacking rewards with them. I haven’t done any extreme rewards stacking with those guys so I have no idea if the $15 would work with another discount or promotion. I haven’t used jet.com either, but since they’re positioned as an Amazon competitor a 5% bonus on purchases could be pretty good.

I believe there are $5 referral bonuses for joining Acorns out there. If anybody has a referral link of their own, feel free to share it in the comments below and become wealthy beyond your wildest dreams.

    OK, I signed up, linked an Amex card that is also signed up for the 1800Flowers Amex Offer, and I bought two separate $25 gift cards after clicking through portal for 15% cash back.

    IF it all works, then I should get:
    * $15 x 2 = $30 from Acorns
    * $15 from Amex (Spend $50, Get $15)
    * $7.50 from Splender portal
    = $52.50 cash back when buying $50 worth of gift cards.

    I’ll let you know how it turns out.

    So far:
    Amex Offer cash back has posted
    Spender cash back is pending
    Nothing yet from Acorns. They’re supposed to invest “within 30 days” so we’ll have to sit tight

    Also exploring the Jack Treads option ($15 on first purchase) but it doesn’t look promising since free shipping doesn’t kick in until your order exceeds $100.

    Got the email from acorns confirming the $15 from 1800flowers. Still waiting for the actual deposit.

    I recieved emails from Acorns regarding the found money from multiple Jet.com purchases but only two of the multiple 1800Flowers purchases. Anyone else have similar results?

    Wonder if it could be they are weeding out gift card purchases. Anyone have a positive data point on gift cards?

    Got confirmation emails for ordering both a regular item (with promo code) and a gift card (2 separate orders). Still waiting for the amount to post in the account.

    Since it’s in beta, I wonder if their system is just having issues consistently sending out emails. I’ve gotten “found money” emails about an order from Dollar Shave Club, 3x from Jet (for 3 orders), but only 2x from 1800-Flowers (for more than 2 orders).

    To those who received emails about their purchases with 1800Flowers or one of the other Found Money merchants, did you click through from Acorns to make your purchase? My understanding is that you don’t have to do so, but I can’t figure out why I haven’t received any emails.

    I did both of my purchases on PC through a portal instead of through Acorns. Did you click the “+” button of the card of interest after linking your account?

    Yep, I hit the + button. All of my Amex cards are signed up for round ups. I don’t see any option to separately sign them up for Found Money

    I’ve noticed that the Acorns platform has difficulty recognizing multiple transactions of the same amount on their round ups platform. For example, I used miles for two tickets on the same itinerary but the total charge was split into two separate transactions on my credit card; Acorns only recorded one transaction. Might be something to keep in mind when making gift card purchases for the same amounts.

    I also just let the Acorns app recognize the transaction and add the “+” as part of its normal processing. Got two of what should be multiple emails for 1800 Flowers purchases.

    Heads up: it looks like Acorns retroactively added a “one within 30 days” restriction to the terms and conditions for 1800-Flowers. Not sure it’s worth writing at this point since nothing’s posted to the account anyway, but what’s the consensus here?

    Exciting! Jet.com purchases are now pending as of 6/1. Purchases made 5/22-23. 6 different purchases adding up to 10.29. Now back to Jet to finish off the $25 max 🙂

    All of the purchase I noted above are now pending deposit into my account. Still waiting for the 1800Flower purchases I did not get emails for.

    OK, I’m ready to call the 1800Flowers part of this deal dead. First they limited it to 1 per month and now they seem to be missing from the Found Money section altogether.

    Oh and I finally got 2 emails congratulating me. Not bad for 3 qualifying purchases.

    My 1800flower found money was finally deposited into my Acorns account. Yesterday I could still see it under Found money, but today the money can only be found under History. At least I actually got the money from previous purchases, but I agree the deal is dead meat going forward
