The Deal Mommy

My Memorial Day View

Greetings from…Roanoke Virginia and the Yu Gi Oh regional tournament! Deal Kid, Deal Friend, and 200 of their fellow compatriots are just finished round 3…hour 5, of what will be an 8 round Anime-fest. Both kids have won just one match of three and are loving every minute of it. And I and Deal Friend’s Mom and tag-teaming the event.

Why on Earth would I drive 8 hours and spend the night to sit in a freezing room that reeks of Clearsil? Because that’s what Moms do. Would I rather be at the beach? Surprisingly, no.

Because Deal Kid and I shared some private laughs last night over our new favorite show, Diggers. If you hear us use the phrases “nectar” and “awesomeness” in a sentence and bust a gut, you’ll know why.

And we got Waffle House for dinner…something that only happens when we road trip South.

And I got to shop at a new Target when our teeth started chattering even though it’s 85 degrees outside. 70% off sailor shirt and $5 wrap come to the rescue! I was even able to update Deal Kid’s beloved hoodie collection at 50% off.

And by thinking strategically, I’m able to maximize points towards that beach trip we were going to take before Yu Gi Oh came knocking. Choosing Hyatt Place over other hotels in the same price range earned 1200 points towards my next trip, and another night towards my 25 to maintain Diamond status. Diamond status got me a 20% discount on the room. Hyatt Place also includes a hot breakfast (with REALLY good coffee for a “budget” hotel), which knocks off at least $10.

The beach nectar will be there forever. Will Deal Kid want the awesomeness of a road trip with Mom forever? I can only hope.

What have you done for your kids that you’d never thought you’d do? Please share in the comments.
