Travel:
- US Airways flew its last flight… well, really the last US Airways flight number was flown. A team from Airways News offers a trip report of the flights.
- Seth weighs in on the end of US Airways and what that may mean, as domestic competition has really lessened with the major mergers.
- Drew shares an account of a roadtrip across Namibia, with Caroline, Darius of Million Mile Secrets, and Stefan of Rapid Travel Chai. It sounds like both an amazing experience, and absolutely exhausting, at the same time! But I suspect that was the intent. Definitely a great read!
- Frequent Miler reports that AARP has officially extended the British Airways discount through 31 March 2017. This is excellent news, as there was some consternation that it might end at the end of the month.
- From Lufthansa Flyer – Austrian will have a dedicated business class cabin. The seats in business will be increased from 30″ pitch, to 32″ pitch. Its not as different as it is in the US, but, any improvement after getting off of a long-haul layflat, is a good thing.
- Seth shares new routes, interesting that Alitalia is expanding as much, and international flights to Russia seem to be taking a hit.
Miles and Points:
- This weekend is Dia the Deal Mommy’s 3rd Family Travel for Real Life being held in Tyson’s Corner, VA, I’ll be there, along with great cast of characters presenting and attending. Can’t wait to see everyone! (note, there’s 3 tickets left, as I write this, if you haven’t gotten your ticket!)
- Freequent Flyer (FQF) offers a “quick hit” – check how much 5x you’ve earned on your Ink. This is especially important, given, the next bullet.
-
Ariana reports (via @konorth) that Office Max is selling $500 visa gift cards again! This is pretty big, obviously because its the lowest cost we’ve seen for 5x (since they are apparently ringing up for $3.95). I haven’t had the chance to verify in my area, but I only have Office Depots, too.
- Economy Class and Beyond shares the kind’ve value he gets from miles and points. Don’t expect to see many numbers here, for him, its about the experiences and people. Couldn’t agree more.
- From Milenerd, and especially given last week’s BA deals – AARP is not just for oldies, and its only $16!
- Some great advise from Becky, writing for the Girl and Globe. I’m a huge fan of Shopping Portals, but I had no idea about Paribus!
Non sequitar
- Amazon will be hiring 100,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season. I’m not sure how many UPS will hire, but gosh, I’ll be thinking about that when I send my boxes in to Fulfillment by Amazon.

- Jason Rabinowitz (@AirlineFlyer) shares his experience flying a Grumman Albatross Seaplane.
- Michael flew on the return flight of the inaugural R2-D2 Dreamliner flight, and shares his experience as a guest post on Le Chic Geek. I might add, we’ve felt that it was the most awesome livery ever for a long time, and got even more excited when Boeing rolled it out!
