Alaska Airlines has a new promotion, the Scenic Route Sweepstakes.  The promotion is sponsored by Cartera, and is really operated out of the Mileage Plan Shopping Mall. Online Shopping Portals are always positive in my opinion.

The promotion period is between 5 October and 25 October, and you can earn 5 entries by making a purchase through the Mileage Plan Shopping mall. They do specifically state however that:

Gift cards will not be considered a qualifying purchase. Please read the merchant’s terms that are associated with the gift card you are purchasing to confirm if the purchase will count as a qualified transaction.

You can earn a maximum of 531 entries (wow!), so, I’m sure there’s a way to hack this, I just can’t think of why it is worth the time, perhaps a bunch of small purchases? Is it even worth it?

Here’s the part that really caught my eye though:

The Prizes:

• 1 Grand Prize of 100,000 Mileage Plan Miles (note, Approximate Retail Value is $5,250)
• 3 First Prizes of 20,000 Mileage Plan Miles (note: ARV: $550).

Wrapping up:

Overall, this isn’t the most exciting promotion, with only 4 potential prizes, but, when you figure that the grand prize is enough to fly Emirates in first class to Europe and Africa.
