Travel
- Ed asks, are there rules of the road in airports? Should there be? As a frequent traveler, I totally believe there need to be, the challenges I see, however are that you have folks that may travel once a year, mixed with folks who are there multiple times a week in some cases. That and airports are getting tighter not wider it seems.
- This begs the question – how long could one’s birthday be?
- Uzbekistan Airways is going to start weighing passengers before the flight. I’ve had Singapore weigh my bags before a flight, but, I think I might take insult to someone requiring me to step on a scale… I mean, after all, that’s why I don’t fly Ryanair.

Miles and Points
- Freequent Flyer still doesn’t understand the appeal of revenue based rewards programs. I can’t say I disagree with him, although, they do have their place.
- Points are King wrote a thoughtful post on how he values his miles and points, it was partly in response to my post of a similar title. He’s also got an interesting post on the Scarcest Resource
- In an attempt to be fair and balanced, Frequent Miler offers the truth about Delta. He’s right about flying Delta, it doesn’t suck to fly Delta. The airline itself is a good, even profitable, operation. the SkyDrachmas program on the other hand, is another story.
- Gary reports that OpenTable will devalue on August 25th. Burn now!
- In case you didn’t get enough of Matt on our last Saverocity Observation Deck Podcast, he has a great mini-rant, too. While Matt’s rant is entertaining, the comments are even better, especially note worthy, is Matt attempting to maintain a modicum of order.
- From Freequent Flyer Amtrak rewards.
Manufactured Spending
- From Travel Summary, part of the Travel Codex team, writes about manufacturing spend via daily fantasy sports leagues. It’s an interesting concept, and I remember when he first wrote about it, but even so, the time required to get smart enough on this method has me giving it a pass.
- From Freequent Flyer, Nationwide Visa Buxx cards are still available! It’s only ~$1k of MS but, at $2 per $500, its pretty cheap for a 2x card!
#AvGeek
- Is Singapore Airlines unprofitable as a mainline, long haul airline? Some seem to think so, and apparently the medium- and short-haul markets are where the money really is, at least in Southeast Asia… That’s where Malaysia is going for… so will Singapore attempt to eat someone else’s lunch?
-
From Airline Reporter, the first Boeing 727 prepares for its last flight. Its a great read for an #avgeek, amazing to learn how many have contributed to its restoration.
