A little birdie was kind enough to share that British Airways has loaded the 777 (and thus increased award space) for the Austin-London-Heathrow route.
The first reference I could find about the upgauging of Austin-London from a 787-8 to a 777 was Routes Online, in fact, posted back in October, however from a quick look, I couldn’t figure out when the 777 starts flying. But I do see significantly more award availability than I’m used to seeing, for example in November and December. Take a look at December – January, searching for 6 Business seats:
And, because some might call me a diva, lets take a look at First Class award availability:
It looks like space is widely available in Business, and alittle less so for First in November as well, but I won’t bore you with more screenshots — now’s your chance to grab that Christmas trip to Europe! My recommendation: Make sure you visit a Christmas Market!
So, are you going to jump on this?

Did the birdie tell you about fuel surcharges?
Yep, but, I felt, that when a family or group of friends of 4-6 folks are looking for flights, fuel surcharges might be an accepted evil.
It’s widely available because no sane person ever wants to book awards on BA due to extortionate taxes and fuel surcharges. It costs $300 + 30k miles to fly to London in coach…no thanks.
@Atxtravel – you’re right, it seldom makes sense to fly BA TATL in Y. But for premium cabins, it might make sense, depending on the situation. If you had a family of 4 or 6, plenty of miles and fixed dates of travel, then the fact that BA released significant award availability could be the difference between being able to spend Christmas or New Years in London, vs. not. So for some, this could be a big deal.
I suppose although I believe taxes double for business or first especially when you depart London. I’d much rather use United miles for this.
hell no
@Ryan – because of fuel surcharges, or because you’re from MA and this availability is from TX?
fuel surcharges…it’s crazy. Texas is great tho
You’re right, but I’d pay fuel surcharges if it meant I could take a family of 4-6 on a great trip.

I’d trade my sachel of cat piss for two coach seats on BA. And been saving that sachel to dine my hunnie too.
hilarious!
