IS THE TWO BROWSER TRICK DEAD?: Terrible news for practitioners of extreme credit, as there are reports that the Citi two-browser trick is dead. For those of you not in the know, this was the practice of doing two Citi personal credit card applications simultaneously. Ordinarily you have to wait for a few months in between two personal apps with Citi, but doing two at once is (or was) a loophole in Citi’s system.
This technique has been discussed quite a bit in this Flyertalk AA card thread, as getting two AA cards (the Visa and the Amex) at once has historically been a great way to rack up a lot of AA miles, especially if you keep cancelling the cards and reapplying for them. A simple search reveals that knowledge of this particular bit of credit arcana has spread far beyond the confines of FlyerTalk, so its demise isn’t too surprising. In addition to Flyertalk, commenters on the View From The Wing blog, where we first read of this, have also reported problems.
Of course, if you want to rub it in to an individual issuer, you still have choices. My Money Blog just did three with Amex–two personal, one business. The folks over in the Dan’s Deals credit card forum have tried out the four-browser method–four apps at once–though some issuers notice you and take action if you do that, YMMV. And of course we can’t forget Rapid Travel Chai’s *five* apps at once with Barclays–four approved, one denied!
We play things a little more conservatively, of course, but we’re always glad to read about loopholes in the system. Keep up the good work, Internet!
