I can’t recall seeing any coverage of this card before but I just noticed a US Bank business credit card that earns almost 4% back on gas purchases with a cap of over $30K per year. It’s not a huge deal, but it might be of use to somebody out there, so here you go. The cumbersomely-named card is the U.S. Bank Business Edge World Elite MasterCard Cash Rewards Card. I think that might be the longest credit card name I’ve ever seen before; it sounds like it was named by a high-school intern and/or a committee of 12 or more people. (If there are any financial branding experts reading this, please try to talk some sense into the people in charge of naming these credit cards–thanks!)
But enough about the name, let’s get back to the details: this particular US Bank business credit card (I’m not typing that name again) has no annual fee and the following rewards:
- Earn 3% cash back on all cellular, gas and office supply store net purchases.
- 1% cash back on all other net purchases.
- Receive a 25% annual bonus based on your prior year’s Cash Rewards, up to $250.
A 25% bonus on 3% gives you 3.75%. The $250 cap on the 25% bonus means that about $33,000 of spending would qualify for that bonus.
Now, 3.75% isn’t a game changer and I don’t think we’ll see a stampede to sign up for this card. But at the same time, there aren’t a lot of cards out there with high gas rewards. There are a few cards which give you 5% as an introductory bonus. The PenFed Platinum Cash Rewards gives you 5%, but only on purchases at the pump, and only if you have another PedFed account. There’s the Amex Old Blue card for some of you. There’s the Fort Knox credit union card, although I don’t know how reliable that one is–I seem to recall seeing some negative feedback on it. And there are a handful of other cards in the 4-5% range, but they tend to have caps below $10K of spending.
Like I said, I don’t think many people will be interested in this one, but if you do spend a lot of money at gas stations, this is worth knowing about. If you still want to know more, Freequent Flyer has written about this card as well as some other US Bank cards.
UPDATE: Thanks to reader johnny for pointing this out:
This card sounded great until I checked it out.
From US Bank site:
Single transaction purchases of gasoline in excess of $200 will not be deemed to be a purchase of automobile gasoline and as such will earn a Reward of 1%.
So it looks like manufactured spending is a no-go on this one.

I do not see why they dont mention penfed cards which offers 5 points (equivalent to 4.25%) at gas station and 3 points (2.55%) at super market
