Here’s a bit of passive income with minimal effort: you can get a discount of 50 cents per gallon on gas at BP when you link any Visa card to your BP Driver Rewards account via this non-affiliate non-commission-generating link. From the ad copy:
Visa Cardholders who are enrolled in BP Driver Rewards and link their Visa card, will earn an additional 50 cents off per gallon for every $100 spent on BP fuel through March 31, 2016. You’ll earn rewards automatically when you pay for BP fuel with a Visa Card linked to your profile.
As always, it pays to look at the terms and conditions, which you can see here if you scroll down a bit. The first important part:
A Qualifying Linked Card allows you to earn an additional 50 cents off per gallon (on a max of 20gal) for every $100 spent on BP fuel at participating locations for fuel purchases made for 90 days from the date the Visa card becomes a Qualifying Linked Card (“Visa Linking Reward”).
So you have to spend $100 on gas before you’re eligible for the 50 cents per gallon discount, and that discount is capped at 20 gallons. The good news is, you can do the deal multiple times.
Some more fine print:
You may link up to 5 eligible Visa cards; however you will only receive the Visa Linking Reward on the first Visa card linked. Only purchases made after the date of linking will qualify for the promotion.
That’s an important point! Only the first Visa card you link gets the big discount, so choose carefully.
This promotion is open to both new and existing Driver Rewards accounts. Happily, the terms and conditions are clearer than they have been in the past for the BP Visa. One question I have: does BP know whether you’re purchasing fuel or non-fuel items?

RE: I’ll have more time soon and can check out the non-fuel possibility, as there is a big deluxe new BP station literally across the street from my home.
That said, it’s doubtful I’d spend very much more than $100 on gas between now and 3/31. I am a teleworker and when I do go to the office, I take the train….so….but appreciate the tip.

Just a data point here: You don’t actually have to pay with your Visa – as long as you link the card to your BP Rewards account, you can enter your number then pay with an Amex (like the PRG for 3x MR at gas stations)

“The good news is you can do the deal multiple times”. I wonder how many times? I can spend $100 on fuel many times over by March. We are driving from Chicago to Key West for Christmas.

I don’t remember ever signing up for these rewards yet the last two times I went to fill up it asked me if I want to save .50/gallon for points. I said yes of course however what does this really mean?
Gary says
Susan, I also get this same request at the pump every other fill up or pretty close to that and I keep thinking why, I have never signed up for anything… last fill up was $1.69/gallon.

Not just me? I’ve noticed this “offer” for the past few months but never said “yes” until recently. My last two fillups have been 50 cents off per gallon and I have no idea how or why. I never signed up for anything, never registered my card, I don’t even go to bp that often. Yet, I am receiving this reward essentially for free. I’m definitely skeptical but can’t say I’m complaining! I certainly haven’t purchased 100 dollars worth of anything from BP, either. I guess I’ll keep this up until BP gets wise to what’s got to be a glitch in their system. I don’t think that they’ll be able to come after us after they figure it out, either.
Hopefully they don’t figure it out too soon! 1.49 per gallon! Woo!!
