I know Drury Hotels doesn’t have the cachet of, say, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, but there’s a free upgrade here so it could be a good deal for somebody out there. This showed up in my inbox and it appears to be open to the public. As the coupon says, it’s a free upgrade for a stay before April 3, 2016. The offer is valid for up to four nights.
There is no advance confirmation of your upgrade; it’s based on availability only. But maybe you’re curious to try a new chain and you’re trying to burn some Arrival points, so this could be worth a try.
I’ve never stayed in a Drury hotel before, though the ones I’ve checked out online seem to rank well in TripAdvisor. I did briefly touch on the Drury Hotels credit card here if you’re interested. The bonus is enough to get you a night or two depending on where you stay.
Yes, yes, I know the answer is “both”. But bear with me for a moment.
Shawn at Miles to Memories has a nice rundown of the new $300 gift cards at Staples. He’s got a section where he lays out how much it will cost for a night at a Hyatt:
- Category 1 – 5,000 points – $29 in fees with $300 cards.
- Category 3 – 12,000 points – $69.60 in fees with $300 cards.
- Category 5 – 20,000 points – $116 in fees with $300 cards.
- Category 7 – 30,000 points – $174 in fees with $300 cards.
That’s a helpful way of looking at it. It’s easy to engage in mental sleight-of-hand and say to yourself, “The fees are 3% but I’m getting 5 points per dollar, and those points are worth two cents each, so I’m actually making 7%!” Well, you are and you aren’t. [Read more…]
