Following up on our recent Best Buy 6% posts: We just tried to use $75 of Reward Zone certificates to put toward some Visa gift cards, but were rejected. It was a system issue, not resistance from a cashier or manager.
This was somewhat surprising to us for two reasons. First, we’ve used RZ certificates in the past to buy gift cards (though this was about a year and a half ago). Second, the terms and conditions do not clearly prohibit using the certificates to buy Visa gift cards. We’ve bolded the relevant phrasing:
The following items are considered non-qualifying redemptions for which reward certificates may not be redeemed: purchases at any Pacific Sales store-within-a-store, purchases/rentals at rent-to-own locations inside Best Buy stores, prior purchases, purchase of Best Buy or Magnolia Gift Cards, purchases made for resale, payment on any Best Buy Credit Card or Reward Zone program Credit Card, Miele appliances in AZ, CA, or NV, sales tax, jurisdictional fees, shipping charges, service charges, recycling fees and discounted Best Buy for Business or commercial purchases.
Though perhaps Best Buy might claim that Visa gift cards fall under the umbrella of Best Buy gift cards, since they’re branded with the Best Buy logo.
