ING DIRECT BLACK FRIDAY SALE–TIME TO ROLLOVER?: The annual ING Direct Black Friday sale has been unveiled. They’re offering $125 if you sign up for a checking account, $100 for referring two friends, up to $360 for rolling over you 401(k), $125 for opening up a Sharebuilder account, and $10 for opening a kid’s savings account. The best deal here is the rollover; if you look on my brokerage page, you’ll see that nobody is currently offering more than $200 for rolling over $50K, which is what gets you the $360 at ING. They’ll also give you $260 for rolling over $25K and $160 for rolling over $10K, both of which are the best brokerage bonus at those asset level. Offers are good through Sunday.
AMEX SMALL BIZ SATURDAY FOLLOW-UP: Tomorrow’s a big day for Amex cardholders, and Just Another Points Traveler has some good ideas on making the most of it. Specifically, the airline dining programs will offer you $1,500 bonus miles if you just spend $30, so if you play your (Amex) cards right, you could find yourself with a bunch of cheap meals and several thousand points. Or you could do like PFD plans to do and head to the locally-owned toy store, do some Christmas shopping, and let Amex pick up the tab. Decisions, decisions…
IN OTHER BLACK FRIDAY NEWS: Money Ning has some Black Friday tips, but interestingly enough the words ‘stay at home on Black Friday’ do not appear anywhere in the piece. As NY Magazine describes it, BF is a ‘behavioral economist’s nightmare.” Confirmation bias! Irrational escalation! Post-purchase rationalization! Actually, it sounds pretty awesome for behavioral economists… Deals We Like points out a bunch of free-after-rebate software, while Frequent Miler spoonfeeds you the FAR process at Staples… And just for the heck of it, courtesy of My Dollar Plan, here’s $25 for signing up for a Visa Gold prepaid card.
TIMESHARES ARE FOR FOOLS: …Unless, possibly, you pick them up cheap on the secondary market. Wisebread has some advice on secondhand timeshares. Frugal Travel Guy owns a timeshare near his residence, the reason being that local owners are allowed use of the facilities all year round. Smart!
