United Award Ticket Devaluation Blog Roundup
In somewhat of a surprise move (not really), United majorly devalued their award chart last week. The upshot is, all international redemptions cost more miles, but what was more surprising was UA split their award chart. Essentially, travel on Star Alliance partners is now going to cost more miles than travel on United metal – a lot more in some cases. Anyway, this is just a reminder to earn and burn. I’m not going to reinvent the wheel here since a lot has been written on the matter, so I just wanted to share some of the most interesting posts I’ve read.

Well, we made it to Italy no more worse for the wear! Thanks to Alitalia trying to force us to buy a business class ticket for our daughter who isn’t half a year old yet, we “slummed” it in angled lie-flat seats on Delta. The seat would have been fairly comfortable – if I didn’t have said daughter strapped to my chest.
Getting an International Driver’s Permit
For my upcoming trip to Italy this summer, I decided to get an International Driver’s Permit. I’ve read mixed reports on whether you need one or not (you definitely don’t need one to rent a car), but purportedly if you get pulled over and the Italian Police ask for it, you could receive a hefty fine of up to a couple hundred Euros. Even when I heard that, I wasn’t going to get the permit, but then I found out it only costs $15 at AAA. Thus, I decided I’d rather be a sucker who pays $15 than a sucker who pays 300 Euro. Also, since we’re traveling to Italy with Baby M, I’d rather not deal with the stress. Anyway, getting the permit was pretty straightforward, here’s how:
