I don’t do a ton of online shopping, and the Upromise card is not in my wallet, but Upromise is an interesting enough program that that I do make use of both its portal and its credit card from time to time. The latest feature of theirs to catch my eye is their in-store deals. Apparently these have been around for about a year and a half but I never noticed.
If you log into Upromise and click on ‘In-Store Offers’ on the left sidebar, you can enter your zip code to get a list of stores within a few miles of you that will give you cashback when you register your credit card. There are a mix of local and national retailers. For example, here’s a sample of what I see when I look in Chapel Hill, NC:
There are a lot more deals than this. Most of the participants are local, but there are a smattering of national retailers as well. They are:
- Papa John’s (5% cash back)
- Home Depot (5%)
- Avis (5%)
- The Body Shop (5%)
- Bloomingdale’s (5%)
- Gap outlet stores (10%)
There are some terms and conditions associated with the various deals. Among the national retailers, all but the Gap deal are only for Upromise cardholders. (The local ones are for any card.) And the Gap deal is only good for a week (it expires 6/13/2016). The Home Depot deal is only good for one purchase of $50 or more with a maximum of $100 cash back. Bloomingdale’s has a maximum of $10 cash back per purchase. And so forth.
I didn’t see too much of interest to me in the local deals other than a restaurant or two I occasionally visit. Home Depot doesn’t have any 5% portal offers, so the 5% deal here is respectable, although it’s not amazing since home improvement stores periodically show up on the rotating quarterly bonus cards. Bottom line: these deals aren’t amazing but they might be worthwhile for a few of you.

You know – the Upromise card has been kind’ve hanging out there for a while, I just keep finding more lucrative cards… Not even sure why, but just hard to pull the trigger on it… on some of those offers you mention, they seem great, until you read the T&C’s…

It was better when you could get the portal bonus on Visas at Staples.
