Just a friendly reminder that Best Buy is offering double points on all purchases storewide on December 8. Click here to find a participating store. What makes this such a great promotion?
First of all, double points means you’re getting 4% right off the bat. In Best Buy’s rewards program, one point is worth two cents of Best Buy credit. You normally get one point per dollar spent, so two base points per dollar = 4%.
Second, there have been some nice Best Buy / credit card promotions as of late. Amex is offering $25 off a $250 purchase. I have a Citi card which is offering me 5 ThankYou points per dollar spent on my first $500 of Best Buy spending. Even if you’re not eligible for any of these, a 2% credit card will take you to 6% back in rewards.
Third, Best Buy sells Amazon (Kindle, actually) gift cards as well as prepaid Visa cards ($5.95 fee, $200 max). The T&Cs on the offer state that gift cards are not eligible for the bonus, but in past promotions they have apparently interpreted that to refer only to Best Buy gift cards only. That could certainly change at any time, so caveat emptor.
Happy shopping, and have a great weekend!

I couldn’t tell from the T&Cs, but is this available only in-store, or online too?

I just received this email saying that my best buy members get double points online all day on December 8:

Sweet….even better. Now it’s also possible to dip even more by going through a portal first to bestbuy.com

Buying online seems only to be useful if you are looking to buy an actual product from Best Buy, but not a gift card? They seem to only sell their own gift cards online and those are excluded from the rewards promo. Please correct me if I’m wrong (and direct me to where I can buy gc’s from them online) Thanks!

Correct, that is my understanding anyway. I’ve never found anything other than BBY GC’s.

By me (west Chicagoland) the best buy said they no longer carry visa gift cards, as of quite recently. They had plenty of kindle, iTunes, and nook (Barnes & Noble) gift cards.
