It’s official: Personal Finance Digest is joining the Saverocity family! From now on, you’ll want to go to the new homepage for the exciting content you’ve become accustomed to. You can find the new RSS feed here.
Why move, you ask? Good question! Among the reasons:
- Running a website is kind of a pain. Being hosted on someone else’s site makes life a little less hectic.
- Symbiosis. I think that there’s some overlap in our target audiences, so hopefully people who read Saverocity will read PFD and vice versa. Also, Matt’s bias seems to be toward interesting and/or useful content that will actually help people, as opposed to mediocre ad-driven content. I don’t mind a bit of shilling on behalf of advertisers, mind you, I just don’t think that the shilling should cause the content to be lousy.
- Personal reasons. By “personal reasons”, I mean “My wife and I have another baby due in a couple of months, and being part of a larger entity makes life easier.”
- Boardingarea.com isn’t really into the personal finance scene, unless you happen to need a Chase Ink Bold credit card. Meanwhile, the content on a lot of personal finance sites boils down to some variation of, “You should spend less money than you make!” Agreed, but what then? Saverocity and PFD are about going beyond the basics.
- $$$$. When a guy with a foreign accent hands you a briefcase filled with unmarked, non-sequential bills, that’s a deal you have to take.
So that’s whats going on. Aside from the new address and a much-needed cosmetic overhaul, I don’t foresee too many changes, as I plan on keeping the same schedule and publishing the same kinds of stuff.
That’s all for now. The usual blog will resume tomorrow.
