The big credit card issuers get all the press, and not just because they’re the biggest–they often have the best deals. But there are some smaller players out there with good deals, too. Here are a few less popular cards which offer 5% rewards. We do not have any of these cards, so we can’t vouch for them, though on the positive side we don’t receive any advertising/affiliate income for promoting them either. They’re just interesting products that deserve a bit of attention.
This card offers 5% for the first six months on gas, groceries, and dining, as well as cable, phone and utility bill payments. There is no annual fee and rewards points do not expire. As far as we can tell the card is only available to customers within TD Bank’s east coast footprint, so be careful about wasting a credit bureau inquiry if you’re not in the right area.
CITIZENS BANK / CHARTER ONE CASH BACK
This one will get you 5% back on gas, grocery, and drugstore purchases for the first 90 days. What makes this one especially interesting is that, as reported on Fatwallet, there apparently is a 10% targeted offer out there for a lucky few:
You may want to consider going to a Citizens or Charter One (both are owned by the same company) and offering, say, an excess kidney in exchange for this offer. It never hurts to ask!
One of the most obscure 5% cards out there, this one merely offers 5% cashback on gasoline purchases. And that’s a permanent benefit, not a limited time offer. We wrote recently about the PenFed gas card, which also offers a 5% gas bonus, but as opposed to that card, the Fort Knox card gives you 1% on everything else. It’s hard to tell from the website whether the cashback is automatically credited, or you have to redeem for it, or what other rules there might be.
