10 Gallon Challenge: The Disney World Dessert Even Crazier Than The Kitchen Sink

If you’re a Disney World fan, you probably have the kitchen sink on your bucket list. The kitchen sink is a monster of a dessert at Disney World’s Beaches and Cream soda shop in the Beach Club resort.  It rightly takes its place in the Disney dessert hall of fame.

Disney World has a new monster dessert: the 10 gallon challenge!

Today I’ve got a new must-do to add: the 10 gallon challenge. It’s hidden at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge. I say it’s “hidden” because it’s not on the menu- if you’re not in the know, you’ll never know! At $27 it gives the kitchen sink a run for its money in price, but I’d say it may beat it in flavor.

Here’s what’s in it (h/t Disney Food Blog):

  1. Scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and mint-chocolate chip ice cream
  2. Pineapple sauce, strawberry sauce, caramel sauce
  3. A slice of apple pie
  4. Two cupcakes: one vanilla and one chocolate
  5. An entire layer of whipped cream
  6. Two huge chocolate brownies
  7. Two Mickey Mouse shaped sugar cookies with dipped chocolate ears
  8. A banana
  9. Two Oreos
  10. Four toasted marshmallows
  11. Two pieces of chocolate covered bacon
  12. Cherries

Unsurprisingly, the chocolate covered bacon was the first to go, followed by the toasted marshmallows. We might have fought over the bacon. While we made a pretty good effort, we couldn’t finish the sundae. We actually called it “lunch”. The apple pie, most of the cupcakes, and banana remained behind.

If you haven’t visited the Whispering Canyon Cafe is an absolute hoot. The Deal Kids and I had been and knew the drill.  However, Deal Dad was a newbie so received the full Whispering Canyon treatment. The “real food” at the Whispering Canyon makes it good enough to visit but now we’ll have to add a special trip for the 10 gallon challenge.

The best part? Whispering Canyon is usually available for last minute reservations unlike Beaches and Cream. If you can’t get in for the kitchen sink, the 10 gallon challenge is a worthy substitute.

Have you tried the 10 gallon challenge? Did you conquer it? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

You can also get the kitchen sink at Magic Kingdom sans reservation. They serve it at the ice cream shop on main street 🙂
