Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art Store: Best Museum Store in the World?

Yep, I bought it!

Yep, I bought it!

“Best Museum Store in the World, Fodors, 2012” was painted on the door of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. Those are fighting words to a girl who interned at the Smithsonian, so I had to check it out.  I’m not sure if the Chicago Museum of Comtemporary Art store the best in the World as I’m partial to the National Gallery of Art’s store in Downtown DC and the Met’s in New York City, but it is pretty darn good. Lots of unique treasures to be had that have nothing “museum-y” about them. The only unifying theme seems to be “quirky”, which is right up my alley!

I vote for the Building Museum gift shop in Washington, DC. Great selection of books — not just on architecture, but also about city planning and interior design. Their toy department is great, and they have lots of quirky gift items.
