- Conclusion: Visiting the Christkindlemarkets of Mainz
It’s hard to conclude a quick trip like this, so I thought I’d share a few observations of the trip, first, a reminder of the itinerary we took:
An extra hour makes a lot of difference
Despite the long layover my father volunteered for in DFW, I think we all found that having an extra hour or so on the DFW-LHR flight helped us make it through the day. That said, flying from the East Coast to Dallas to London to Frankfurt is brutal. In hindsight, I’m really surprised that nor my father and brother complained. They were troopers.
The hotel makes an even bigger difference
This was my second stay at the Hyatt Mainz. That weighed heavily into my choice to take others to. I knew what to expect, and by knowing what to expect, I knew how to manage my father and brother’s expectations. Given this was our first adult trip together overseas, I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. The Hyatt Mainz not only met, but exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend, if you’re taking family on a first trip (to try to show them how awesome travel can be), mitigate your risks, and choose a hotel that you know.
Lufthansa First Class is great, but the Lufthansa First Class Terminal is true awesomeness.
I really enjoy flying Lufthansa, primarily because of the ground experience. Our flight unfortunately experienced a mechanical, but other than the implications for my father’s connections, it was smooth sailing. Before we even left for our first aircraft, we had an amazing lunch, and had the chance to try various liquors that we probably wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to sample. While my brother didn’t get to experience this awesomeness, I’m sure its in his future.
Awesomeness begets awesomeness
I won’t say too much, but, there may be a trip in the future, that I dare say will continue the trend of awesomeness.
And, because they both told me I could, I thought I’d share a photo of the three of us outside the Hyatt Mainz. That paper my father is holding up is his hometown newspaper, so you might just see this picture in that too.
