US airways bonus miles

Hi all,

Just got an email from barclays about my us airways card. They are keeping the 10,000 anniversary bonus miles and you will now get them as aa advantage miles. So if you have the card with this option might be a great reason to keep it.

That was BAD timing. I got the e-mail for my wife's card as well - and had just cancelled that card on Monday. :-( Oh well, you win some, you lose some I guess.

No kidding. Too bad I am in the process of cooling a bit with our credit card applications. Also I figured we'd have a better shot at getting approved for another card if we didn't have any current cards... Oh well.

Also, this is one a slightly different but related topic. If anyone has recently applied and received 40,000 points - they will match the 50,000 point offer that is publicly available. From what I remember, Barclays didn't really match sign-up offers in the past.

Just curious...why did you cancel? Did you try getting the fee waived or are you trying to get a new US Airways card?

Barclay seems desperate to keep people. Wife and I both just called in for retention offers in the last day.

Myself: $89 fee refunded, 10,000 miles with $3k in 3 months ( on top of current 15k miles with $500/month x 3 months) $2k credit line increase no hard pull

Wife: $89 fee refunded (but she didn't speak with Retention "specialist")

Anyone know if it is possible to get these offers in chat? My wife's card is due and she hates to call. She also got the 15k miles offer for $500/month x 3 months and we are two months into it. It's possible we can complete the spending in February for the 15K but then have a few days to cancel the card before the 60 days are up.

Are you calling in for a card you just opened or a card you've had for a year? I haven't heard of the 15k miles with $500/month given towards months 10-12 of having the card open.

I've had my card open for 2 years now. When I called about the annual fee, I got $89 annual fee waived and a promotion for 10K miles with $3K/3 month spend.

In addition to this (coincidentally I'd say) I got a mail offer yesterday for spend $500/month for Feb/Mar/Apr and get 15K bonus miles. They line up nicely, so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Thanks, it's one of the best offers I've ever gotten... Most cards I throw a small Amazon GC on every 4-6 months to avoid them closing the account, etc. With the USAirways MC I find that if you don't use it for a while, you get an offer. Maybe that's just a coincidence on my part, but I've seen other people report similar findings.

Looks like I need to stop using it to load up my Redbird. Thanks for the tip!
