Requesting extra points offers

The recent blog about the US Airways extra points mentions that you can call in and request extra bonus categories/miles.

How do you usually go about this? Does the time in relation to the annual fee matter? Any success stories to share?

Use the search function within level 2 and look for threads about this topic. There is at least one that I remember.

I will research more in depth, but a quick one didn't lead to an obvious thread.

This is a broad, understated topic that I hope yields some current discussion, not only outdated and limited datapoints.

Others please chime in if you feel it is a topic better served in L2. As this is the general CC forum, and not MS specific, I put it here.

It's not Level 2 material but some things just end up being in there. In terms of what to do - its all about social engineering. You can't necessarily demand bonus points but if you call in cancel (but not cancel) your card you typically get some offers. Likely to be more successful after you have held the card a little while.
