Citi bonuses now limited to 1/brand every 24 months

Per DoC/Reddit:

e.g. if you've gotten the AA Plat you wouldn't be able to get the bonus for AA gold, same with Hilton and Hilton Reserve. It looks like this still works for personal/business versions of the same card though (AA Plat + Biz Plat would still work).

Either way, RIP churning with Citi.

Yeah this totally sucks. Only good news is I earned a lot of points from Citi before this happened. But of course those will run out soon enough. I guess I'm more upset with the AA limitations going forward given the Prestige deval next July, but ALL of these matter. Hilton for example. Eventually all those points will run out.

I guess we'll have to see how often targeted applications without the language or links without the language slip through. But still. Yuck.

I couldn't sleep, got up, and saw this was hitting the news. Now to rethink strategy. That should really help with me sleeping. Not.

With the 24 months in place, I was going to leave a card open for 2 years, apply for a new one, then close the old one. Figured I'd just pay the fee x 1 if they didn't lower it. Now, if I close ANY Hilton, AA, or TYP card I won't be eligible for a bonus for 2 years. Makes me want to close everything and start all over.

There are still some offers out there without this new language (as of last night), but I'm worried that Citi won't honor bonuses.

If you apply for any, be sure and check both the landing and application page. I would also get screen shots of both!

Wondered who gave you a "thumbs down" and saw it as me! Ugh, touch screens. Removed.

Another update by DoC/Reddit:

Looks like the rules won't officially be applied unti August 28th. So if you still have AA cards to get now would be the time.

I don't get it. I have the utmost respect for Doc and have learned a lot from his site. Regardless, unless you're applying using a link with the old terms, Citi is under no obligation to honor what a media specialist told someone verbally.

It looks like he did acknowledge that YMMV when it comes to applications. I guess for now it's back to hoping for mailers without the language at this point, and seeing if that still sticks.

DoC made the right call. My loving wife and I applied for three Citi AA cards a couple of days before the 28th, quickly and organically met the spends, and as of today we've received all three signup bonuses despite each of us having had a handful of Citi AA cards within the past year or so.
