- Stop the presses! American Airlines’ Los Angeles-Sydney flight will be on sale Monday! Set your alarm clocks, create your Expert Flyer alerts (if that’s even possible), cue the carrier pigeons! So what’s the over/under on whether they’ll load award space at the same time?
- The Wandering Aramean wandered a mall in some–I assume–remote place of Pennsylvania, and the truest statement of his whole post: “And, perhaps the coup de grace: Spencer’s still exists, selling useless crap to another generation.” Amen.
- Where Ian Fleming wrote the Bond Series. Worth a read, maybe even a visit.
- And talking about Qatar Airways’ wines, the folks making the decisions did a challenging trip: To better understand the affects of taste at 30,000 feet, Cluer and a few of his colleagues recently performed a very rare challenge by sampling wines at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Talk about going the extra mile!
- Lufthansa Flyer reports that Lufthansa has completed the First Class Cabin retrofit project. Now whenever you fly on a 747-400, you should be able to expect a bed in the sky. That is, if your 747-400 actually has a first class cabin.
- Lucky writes that he’s becoming complacent when it comes to pursuing status in new loyalty programs. As someone who pursues status with Marriott, Hyatt, and American, I don’t have the luxury of adding another… But the only reason I stick with Marriott is the allure of eventual lifetime Platinum status.
- Crystal Cruises will be getting a few new ships and are buying a 787 Dreamliner. Even crazier? It will have only 60 seats on it. For comparison sake, the Four Seasons 757 has 58 seats.
- Freequent Flyer has an interesting take on the travel benefits of some of the more oft-recommended cards, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
- Gary Leff reports that Chase will keep issuing Southwest Credit Cards. It’s both news, and no news.
- Australian Business Traveller goes behind the scenes at the Emirates Flight Catering Center. I’d love the chance to visit this place… although the training center (with the mock-A380 water evacuation area) is the top of my list.
- Brian Sumers reports that United will stop 2 routes that, apparently, only #Avgeeks will miss. Guam to Cairns, Australia, and Guam to Seoul.
