Ok, folks this was a quick late-night giveaway where you only had 45 minutes to enter by posting a comment. Why the short time? I wanted to reward loyal blog subscribers and twitter followers who would receive the notice of the post right away. I also wanted to limit the number of entries so that anyone who entered had a pretty good chance of winning. Plus I just like to mix things up and keep people on their toes… so make sure to subscribe to the blog and follow me on twitter.

So if you got the comment in on time, you had an excellent chance! Only 9 of you beat the 45 minute deadline (for the others yes it would have been helpful to have a time zone, but it would have been too late anyway…)

So here were the 9 who were eligible:

Aahz
Bret
Paul
Karl S.
Denise
Charlie
Russ
Matthew
Bill

And here were the winners randomly picked by, em. Randompicker.com

A 7x Portal Bonus at Staples and Why it Sucks

I love Staples portal bonuses because if you get a good one and stack with the 5x Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Ink card and 5% Staples rewards you can make a mediocre deal great.

However, decent Staples portal bonuses are rare. Usually you are lucky to get 2-3 miles or points per dollar or 5% cashback at Upromise or Discover Deals.

So when I saw a 7x for Staples I got a little excited… until I clicked through and saw it was for Plenti. And then I remembered several blogs that looked at this and said that Plenti pretty much sucked.. like this post from The Doctor O’ Credit and this post from The Devil’s Advocate which tried to make an argument for Plenti but just couldn’t

And Discover Deals at 5% back still trumps this since the 5% will get doubled at the end of the year. I probably would even pick the 5% Upromise cashback because it seems the best redemption for Plenti points is gas stations and I already have craploads of Kroger points to lower my cost.
