Amex has another nice Amex Sync offer – $25 off $200 at Newegg.com. That’s a healthy 12.5% discount on $200 if you were interested in buying things from Newegg. While Newegg is generally pretty competitive with pricing on electronics, there’s another way to play this that opens up a lot more options.
You see, Newegg also sells gift cards. Here are some of the options:
- Visa gift card ($105.95 + $2.99 shipping make this not so attractive)
- Home Depot
- Groupon
- Hyatt
- American Airlines
- Kmart
- Kohls
- Gap / Banana Republic
Since Newegg sells ebay gift cards you can buy these, then use the ebay gift cards to buy other merchant gift cards. You would then get 2% in Ebay bucks, and 1-2% from a portal (Shop at Home is currently 2%, or you could get 1x American Airlines miles through their portal
Now there was a 4x ebay points promo that just ended, that would have given 8% back in Ebay bucks; which would have been over 20% back in total (12.5% + 8% +1-2% for portal).
Or if you are patient and find discounted gift cards at ebay you can also increase the discount (right now they have $100 Circle K gas cards for $95).
But wait, there is a limit of 1 ebay gift card per customer while the Amex Offer is for spending $200 or more..
Ah, but the Amex offer says a minimum of $200 in one or more transactions by 12/31/2015, so you should be ok as long as you can have multiple Newegg orders over time. I assume the 1 per customer limit is per transaction or day and that you would be able to order more. Of course, they could sell out, worst case is to buy another gift card to get the credit, maybe a Hyatt or American Airlines.
Also, per the terms there does not seem to be a gift card exclusion

Walmart actually has 5% back through Upromise or Discover portals
Use this to have Staples pricematch to get 5x + Staples rewards, or Best Buy to use those $20 back on $199 Amex Sync offers. So nice of Amex to make it $199 and not $200 so we don’t have to worry about whether the tax counts or now.
