Question on Trip Cancellation Insurance

Last October, I travelled to Hongkong with my family and then to India. My 4 yr old got a respiratory viral infection 5 days before the departure date to US. He was admitted to hospital and we missed the return flight.
CX was not willing to accomodate us on a different flight due to lack of availability on all flights for a month.

So, we returned to US by British Airways. Fortunately, I used Barclays Arrival Plus to book the tickets and read about trip cancellation insurance. Contacted barclays and was forwarded to a 3rd party insurance company that is handling my claim currently. After a long tedious process, they have finally come back with the amount they'd reimburse.

Cost of my trip : $2500
CX paid us the taxes on the unused return trip : about $200
3rd party insurance company is willing to reimburse us for [(2500/2) - 200] -> 1050

What got left out is the cost of return tickets on BA -> $3000. This 3K is the cost of one-way tickets from India to USA.

I'm asking insurance company to reimburse me 2300(2500-200) instead of 1050. Reason: I already paid a lot more than 1250 for the one way fare from India to US.

The terms & conditions are unclear and we have been going back & forth on this for the last 2 weeks. I've attached the terms & conditions pdf file.

Any ideas if I have been offered a fair amount or should I pursue this legally?

tldr: Insurance company is reimbursing me only 1050 instead of 2300(what I'm asking).

Cost of my trip : X ( a few thousands of dollars)
CX paid us the taxes on the unused return trip : about $200
3rd party insurance company is willing to reimburse us for [(X/2) - 200].

What got left out is the cost of return tickets on BA. One-way tickets from India to US costed us more than X (CX return trip tickets from US to India). Let's call this Y. Y > X in this scenario.

I'm asking insurance company to reimburse me [X-200] instead of [(X/2) -200]. Reason: I already paid a lot more than X/2 for the one way fare from India to US.

Lots of algebra here, can I recap?

Is (X/2-$200) <= $1500?

Purple squirrel is asking that insurer reimburse his/her real out of pocket expenses, which was the last minute ticket home.

Matt,
What is unclear is if that $1500 is per person or for the entire group. If I booked for a party of 10 people and the max compensation is $1500, that'd be a huge loss. I'm learning that Chubb insurance has written the contract so it can inferred in the way they wish. I intend to take it up the chain and pursue legal options, if necessary. Putting this up on public forums so people can learn along with me.

From my understanding of reading the T&Cs it's seems that there is actually a cap of $1,500 which the way it is written seems it is in total not per person. Since it states that they will only pay up to $1,500.
In addition, in my experience using travel insurance thru a CC I have learned that they will reimburse what you have prepaid minus what the carrier has agreed to refund you. However, they will NOT pay for any other out of pocket expense you must incur to make it home. Also honestly depending on how far you decide to take this legally your legal fees might add up to more than the extra $$ you are trying to get the insurance company to pay.

Latest update: I have settled for an amount lower than what I asked for.
Other option is to sue them. I don't have the time for that.
