American Express Centurion Lounges--Worth the Hype?

Yes there are four AirSpace lounges where you can get access with the Plat. They're at BWI, CLT, SAN and I can't remember where the fourth one is. Have you been to any, and if so how do they rate?

The article I linked says these are the AirSpace lounges:

In addition to SAN, Airspace Lounge has locations open at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) Terminal 5.

I use the San Diego lounge and think it is very pleasant. It has a great view onto the tarmac. It's spacious and light. The $10 credit covers a little more than any one item on the menu. They will happily put the items into to go boxes. The cheese plate and the charcuterie plate are good nibbles. When flying premium cabin on BA, they provide unlimited food items. The free food for everyone is standard AA lounge. I've never felt crowded in the SAN lounge. There are comfortable seating areas, small tables with chairs and bench seating, and the bar. It's a great place to while away a few minutes until boarding.

Right,CLE not CLT. Hope I get to try a couple before my wonderful year of plat lounge access is up!

The locations of AMEX CLs work for me. I find the Vegas option nice, but usually overly busy. As for the card worth, I like it for FHR and the concierge program. If nothing else, in your own head you think you are a boss!

Topic for a totally different thread: How to persuade your SO to let you pick out cards for them...

My biggest issue with the Centurion Lounges is that they are getting more and more crowded.
Agreed. Not sure how to fix it besides book flights at less busy times?

And I'm sure it will only get worse with the wildly blogged about 100k offer that just popped up...

People handle this differently. I am the source of information. I don't apply *for* my SO.
The issue is getting her to see the worth when compared to all the work. I do the bulk of the work, but "credit" is scary to her and it is hard to nail down uses immediately so the "free" nights/flights just simply look like points.

Not the most tangible currency.

It may take some time. Be patient and let her discover the benefits tangibly. Make sure to take some great trips sooner rather than later. Credit is scary for a lot of people and most people don't do what we do so it seems more risky to some.

Being a newbie I was the same way at first I thought oh my god these people have 20+ cards their credit score most be shot. But after reading and learning about the hobby, learning what exactly effects a credit score and seeing the benefits and travel that I can have with cards made me see that their is risk but also massive rewards.

It blew my mind too. But slowly working up my value to the banks as to help with future apps and potential home ownership.

Scariest thing I have learned is how quickly your credit score can drop through the floor, and how long it takes to bring it back up. Luckily this was learned via forums and blog comments, but you can just see how crazy this whole financial world is. You miss a couple payments cause you got laid off, your credit score is going to the Big House for a hard 5-10.

I just had a similar conversation with a few friends about applying for creditcards. I show them my stack and they said that they will never do that. The addition of a platinum card in the collection made them "WTH! Why would you pay $450?" - I tried to explain but they are are just resistant to the idea.

I'm excited to be able to use it in the Centurion Lounge at the end of the month with my 6 year old daughter who thinks that lounge access is normal for everyone.
