If the first 24 hours in Charlotte weren’t enough, we still had another 48 hours of eating and quilting to go. Although I didn’t go AS crazy on the back nine, we still had a pretty great time. In the final part of our quick trip to Charlotte, I’ll highlight some (more) of the food we ate and also talk about what we learned on the flight home (quite a bit). [Read more…]
Chowing Down in Charlotte – Part 1
I was somehow conned into taking a trip down to Charlotte to visit Jess’ sister and husband for a weekend. Ostensibly, we went down so Jess could make a quilt for Baby M – since quilts can only be made in Charlotte or some nonsense. Still, I’m not really complaining since Charlotte is one of my favorite cities to visit, especially when it comes to eating. I’m fairly certain that my arteries are under more duress now than they were before the trip, but hey, quilts can only be made in Charlotte, right? Ultimately, I view/viewed this trip as a test run for our big trip this summer; it was useful to get a sense of how Baby M travels these days.
24 Hours in Portland
After a hiatus of a few months, I’ve decided to try to revive the blog a bit. So we’ll see how that goes! Anyway, last Columbus Day, we took a trip with my parents to Martha’s Vineyard. We didn’t have that kind of time this year, but since I had some leftover Hilton points lying around, I booked us one night at the Hampton Inn in downtown Portland, Maine for 40,000 points. It turned out to be a great trip!

I signed my wife up for the AMEX Platinum last year. It has a hefty $450 annual fee that is NOT waived but they were offering her 100,000 Membership Rewards points that I couldn’t pass up. That’s less than 0.5 cents per point if you don’t use any of the benefits of the card at all. The flight home from D.C., however, illustrated why having an AMEX Platinum might just be worth the high annual fee. I’ll first write about our experience, then explain how the card made it all possible.

First Flight with an Infant: AMEX Platinum Makes the Flight Home Easier
After the day of the wedding, we hit a lot of stuff over the next two days. On Sunday we went to Georgetown for cupcakes with the baby, then a family lunch for the wedding, then the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, then our friend’s house for dinner. Then my parents met up with us to see the cherry blossoms on Monday, after which we went to the Smithsonian again, and finally we went to dinner with our friends without baby M for our last night in DC. It was a whirlwind trip, and all three of us were exhausted by the end of it!
