For existing Bank of America Alaska Airlines cardholders, check your mailbox. A targeted offer for 3X miles on qualifying back to school purchases is making the snail mail rounds. Let this be your reminder to open the junk mail this week, maybe not for this offer, but for the other, better ones that could also show up.
The bonus categories are fairly broad, but the offer itself is capped at 2500 bonus miles, so it is lukewarm. Still, this card is not known for extravagant sign up offers and even less so for spend promotions. For those unfamiliar with the card, you can, of course, read every link-pimping blog post extolling the virtues of this thing, or I can provide you with a run-on sentence and the highlights:
- $75 Annual Fee
- $99 + taxes Annual Companion Pass, good on any economy fare – including the deeply discounted buckets; companions earn full mileage as well
- 3X miles on Alaska Airlines purchases, 1X everywhere else
- That’s pretty much it
The card itself is no frills, but the companion pass justifies it for me. In the past, the card has been churnable, and I currently have two myself – both of which I will renew as I get good value out of the companion passes. Of course, you wouldn’t want to apply for the card just for this promo offer, as it’s targeted to existing cardholders and only 2500 miles maximum. But if you have a potential trip on Alaska forthcoming and could use 30k miles to boot, you can do a lot worse than this card.
Worry not if you don’t have a mailer in hand. You can check your Bank of America targeted offers here using the right side bar.
For those interested in the stunning leaflet, here is the mailer, minus my unique offer code as I do plan to earn those 2500 miles. I apologize in advance for potato quality.
Note: I receive no compensation for the credit card links in this article. I am a BoA Alaska Airlines cardholder and received the offer mentioned.
Thanks for the info -we both have the card and were able to register via your link! As to the $99 cert, there is one aspect that is often overlooked; if you are MPVGold on AS, when you book a flight that gives you a instant upgrade, it drags your companion up to the front of the plane with you. That’s a huge benefit on long distance flights. We did FAI-LAS r/t in F with the other ticket costing just $123 (w/tax) twice this year (since we both have the card). Amazingly, there does not seem to be a scarcity of upgradable seats with the companion ticket if you book in advance. Compare that to our annual Delta companion cert, that is severely restricted on dates and fares and if you are living in the lower 48, is not even good for travel to Alaska.
Thanks Ken. We are lowly AS MVPs here, but thankfully all 3 of us are, so I’d not noticed that the companion cert books into the same fare class as the non-discounted passenger. That’s excellent. MVP instant upgrade fare classes are much more expensive so we don’t use them.
You can have more than one card if you need more companion certs. At least, I have two open right now and BOA doesn’t mind.
