I just received an email from US Airways offering a limited time 50% bonus to transfer hotel points into airline miles The rates of exchange vary by each Loyalty program, as per the link below, the rates, even with the 50% aren’t brilliant. I wouldn’t recommend changing over large amounts of points, but it might be useful for orphaned programs.
For example. I have 13000 Hilton Honors left over after a spate of last minute high end award bookings, and I don’t plan to ever gain any more HHonors points now since they devalued their plan – so it might be worthwhile sending over 10K for a measly 850 US miles even though the rate is poor, just to clear up these orphaned Hhonors (we call them orphaned when there are only a few left over in the account and not enough for a booking).
Another good reason to make the transfer would be if your US Airways miles are expiring soon, if you add to the balance, even by a small amount it will keep the mileage balance fresh, and prevent it from expiring. As you might know this airline has recently confirmed its merger with American Airlines, so they will be merging their frequent flyer programs in the future, both programs are strong right now so I am happy to keep building miles in both, and figuring out how to deal with them when they announce terms of the merger.
I’m still on the fence about sending over my Hilton points, since they do have some low category hotel deals that I could book for 10K points, its not something I would normally do, but perhaps with the devaluation of the luxury Hilton properties the value in the program is on the low end now… would you transfer hotel points to airline miles at these rates?
