Tip 1 Comp Dollars and Slot Dollars
Comps earned are typically Comp Dollars AKA Casino Cash from Tables, to be used at the restaurants and spas etc, typically at a 1:1 ratio, and Slot Dollars which are free spins on the slot machine, you have to play it all, but you keep what you win.
Depending on your play you will either get a free room, or a special rate, and you can use your Comp Dollars to pay the balance for this too. Comp dollars are great for me because I enjoy fine dining and these Casinos have excellent restaurants.
Slot Dollars are earned by playing the machine with your Players Card, you get a certain amount of Comp Dollars and a certain amount of Slot Dollars too – these slot dollars are used by inserting your card into the machine, punching in a pin number and transferring a set dollar amount to the machine to play with (ask any Slot employee for help doing this).
If you get $100 slot dollars and play a $1 machine for $1 per spin you have to play 100 spins – after which whatever balance is left is yours to keep. Personally I value Slot Dollars at about 33cents per dollar based on a theoretical return (it is likely higher than this and I have won a lot more in the past, but I don’t like to over value them since there is no guarantee of winning anything from them and they cannot be cashed in without play.
If you recall the previous post on Casino Gambling, playing the Comp Game I received $500 Slot Dollars and $100 Comp Dollars (in the form of a Dining Credit) from Revel just to stay with them for the weekend, in a free suite!
Tip 2 BONUS Comp Dollars and BONUS Slot Dollars
Now you know what Comp Dollars and Slot Dollars the goal is getting BONUS Dollars! These are given to you just for turning up, like at Revel (if you were targeted like I was) and at The Borgata where I spend most of my time I get to check in advance what the offers are. The trick then is to pick the best overlap time for your visit, sometimes one offer expires on Friday and is repeated on Saturday so on a weekend trip you get both!
Here is an example of an overlap that I am going to use next:
Total Haul from Visiting on Monday January 21st would be
- $25 Comp Dollars
- $300 Match Play
- $100 Slot Play (minimum, with a chance to be $400-500)
This leads us into the question – what is a Matchplay? On this day I will get 2 coupons, 1x$100 and 1x$200 Matchplay. These are for use on Table Games only, with a further caveat that they can only be used on even money bets. Matchplays work like this:
You bet $100 real money with $100 matchplay coupon. If you win you get paid $200, so you are betting even money to win 2×1!
However, no casino game is really even money, since they are a business, but they are close to it. I play 2 games, Roulette and Craps for even money, the latter being the best bet in the house for this coupon.

Craps is a little more complicated to explain (though super easy once you get the hang of the game. The other good thing about Craps instead of Roulette is that there are two bases with two different dealers in Craps, so it isn’t so obvious when you bet against one another. The casino doesn’t like it when they catch you doing this since it destroys them (go figure) so on a Craps game you can do this without being caught out at all quite easily.
When you play the Matchplays like this, and play the Slot Dollars only down to the amount you get for free (by counting how much you spend in your head or on a calculator (like on your phone) then you get a real nice perk for popping down on that Monday!
