We changed up the itinerary for Charlotte. Initially we were going to have just a few speakers and wrap things up by about 2pm, heading off for an “Amazing Race” for those who wanted to do so. However, we felt that getting everything fitted into that schedule would make things rushed, and with so many great speakers presenting we thought it would be a better use of the day to fill it up more. Below is the itinerary.
We hope to kick things off from 11am Sharp with Frequent Miler presenting. In order for that to work we are opening the doors at 1030am for registration. You do not need to print out your ticket, let’s save some trees! Please bring the receipt via smartphone or just have some ID so we can cross check you on our list.
In terms of topics of discussion, everyone is bringing what they feel is relevant to the table, so some of it may focus on specifics of a deal, whereas others might talk more about concepts and ideas. I have only a loose idea of what people are going to bring up and am confident it will be interesting stuff from a range of perspectives and experiences.
You are not going to walk away from this one day event with a dozen tricks, well, you might, but if you do they came from making relationships and exchanging contact information with people. Anything that is discussed throughout the event is done so in the good faith that you will not republish the information, be it on blogs for bloggers, or Flyertalk/Twitter/Facebook for those few people who haven’t started their own blogs yet! Sure, you can say it was great/rubbish, but remember, the first rule of fight club is there is no fight club.
Please check the comments in the social post for discussion on meeting up, and feel free to continue it here. From a connecting perspective I think the focus is on Friday, since there will be a lot of people coming in, in order to connect with these people I suggest Twitter. There has been some talk of using a hashtag, I think #CharlotteDO or #milemadness would both work to help identify people, but even then sometimes it would be better to ‘know a few people’. Please be sure to follow the players, and anyone else that has shared a twitter handle, from the players list on this link sadly Milenomics and Chasing The Points won’t be joining us, but the rest will be. And add Frequent Miler too. The twitter handles for the players are included in the link.
Frequent Miler has booked a table for 10 at 6pm Friday at the Ri Ra Irish Pub. If you want to join him email frequentmiler at gmail with subject: RSVPmilemadness. I plan to swing by the pub but might miss dinner. Oh and don’t forget it is Chase Second Friday! Bring your Freedom cards for 5x Ultimate Rewards on dining.
Food On Saturday
I have placed special orders for Vegetarian and Gluten friendly meals. If you have a request for one of these I can try to get it incorporated, but please email me or leave a comment here no later than tomorrow 11am EST, and I cannot guarantee being able to make the change. After which time I REALLY cannot guarantee making the change.
Lastly – I decided to not have refreshments in the conference room. The price for water, tea and coffee was about $12 per person, which I didn’t want to add onto your ticket price, so swing by the local CVS and grab something to drink if you think you might need it.
If I haven’t covered anything – let me know! I look forward to meeting you all soon!

printed my ticket already; should I pretend I didn’t so I won’t be shunned?
Matt says
Ha – yeah I felt kinda bad making out like we were murdering trees and then someone shows up with a ticket 🙂
If we can simply reduce overall the number printed out that would be cool.
mark says
I so want to go. Is there really no more room? 🙂
Matt says
I’m sorry mark- we are at capacity. If it goes well we might do another in the future and if be glad to meet you there

Matt – If you can, I would like vegetarian.
Matt says

I wish I was going. I was already booked up this weekend. Keep us posted on a 2nd DO.

If the hotel lets me do it, I could haul over a bunch of waters or something, let me know.
Matt says
I’m not sure how they’d feel about it- we could smuggle some in luggage or something?
Kumar says
Any ideas of video recording the presentations and selling it for unfortunate one like me who is not able to attend but would like to hear the experts talk?
Matt says
I’m afraid not, we are trying to create networks of people to work together and I don’t think video is conducive to that. I hope we can meet up another time.
Stew clark says

I woke up this morning to a US Airways flight status update: Flight delayed 2 hours! I was already going to be fashionably late, but this is ridiculous. I told US Airways I don’t need the seat, and I’ll spend the day MSing my way around Chicago. I’ve asked Matt to see if any on his waitlist are locals; hopefully someone can enjoy my spot t the DO.
Sorry to not be able to meet all of you; I was looking forward to it. Have a fantastic day, and maybe I’ll hear about it on the interwebs….
