The Best Hotel Feature I’ve Seen in a Long Time

Greetings from the Westgate Town Center in Orlando! I’m here for the week between a Traveling Mom conference and FT4RL 6. Besides the value thanks to vacation rentals I’m loving a lot about this property. The location is great if you’re visiting the parks but want the space of staying off-property- I got to the Magic Kingdom in fifteen minutes last night. But that’s not the point of this post. The Westgate Town Center features screened-in balconies: the best hotel feature I’ve seen in a long while.

Why don’t more hotels have screened-in balconies?

I’m thinking back over twenty five years of hotel and vacation rental stays and I can’t remember a single screened in balcony. It’s a total no brainer feature. Having the screened-in balcony has made it usable 24 hours a day, every day.

We don’t get any hours of direct sunlight or excess heat, even though it’s over 90 degrees outside. We get no bugs and no rain- just cool breezes and lovely views. It’s all the advantages of a balcony with none of the downsides. It’s safer for small kids, too!

I’ve talked before about how my definition of luxury has evolved through the years. The Westgate doesn’t have turndown service or a lounge. Heck, being a vacation rental it doesn’t have daily housekeeping.  They even charge extra for internet. (Note to Westgate: It’s 2017. Please stop charging for wi-fi. Seriously.)

But this screened-in balcony is just about the best hotel feature I can imagine. I’ve spent almost the entire trip out here. It’s going to be hard to have another vacation rental without it.

Be sure to keep an eye on Westgate social media (either Facebook or Twitter).  Westgate holds events for the military throughout the year including hosting 1,000 families this weekend. They also give military, first responders and teachers a 10% discount.
